About Jake
Hi! My name is Jake Richmond. I live in Portland, OR where I make comics and games! Modest Medusa is kind of an autobiographical comic (except for all the stuff with the Medusa), so the Jake you see in the comic is pretty much me.
Have a question? Hate the comic and really need to let me know? Want to buy some original Modest Medusa art? Contact me at jake (at) atarashigames.com

hello it me pazuzu the demonologist if u have questions about any monster or demon type just pq me at drunkduck and never hear of a chainsaw uncorn love it (saying it like a gay)
I thought the comic was funny, but that comment was facepalm lulzery upon the high seas of the internets.
That is a pretty awesome jacket…
Thanks!
I agree.
Hey Jake, just found the comic and zipped through the archives in no time! It’s a great comic, keep up the awesome work!
Hi Jake, I’m a professional sculptor and toy designer and I’m considering starting a new project soon. I’ve only recently started reading your comic, and fell in love with the little Medusa instantly character. She’s cute and adorable, and i think a lot of people would love being able to purchase their own little version of it. If this is something that might be of interest to you, drop me a note and we can discus it more.
You say your name is Jake, yet the you put down for the comment is John Shirey. I call shenanigans!!
uh John Shirey never said he was Jake….he said “Hi Jake, I’m (John Shirey) a professional sculptor” no shenanigans here
I think it would be really cool to get a mini-figurine, or preferably a plushie of the little medusa. I’d like to have one now, but of course, not if it was ridiculously expensive…I bet you could get an easy $15-20 asking price on a well made 8-10″ medusa.
I’ve caught up on everything today and now I’m waiting on the next one anxiously. Are we ever going to get a name to go with the friendly little medusa.
I’m working on both figurines and plushies. News when there’s news.
:33< Mrrrrow! I want a Medusa plush!
Maybe very soon.
I vote 1 million for making this happen!
do you have another comic? If not, where is the little girl with the mouth on the back of her head from. If yes, links?
she’s from my psychic Japanese schoolgirl role playing game, Panty Explosion Perfect. It’s a 52 space book full of fill color comics and illustrations (as well as a complete game). You can get it at atarashigames.com.
I just wanted to say thank you ^___^
Oh, hey! Well, thank you!
My only comment: Update more you selfish bastard! My Tuesdays are boring…
I don’t think that will happen, but… after I finish my current game project I’m thinking about starting a 2nd webcomic that would update once or twice a week.
Hey Jake, I’m up in Tacoma, WA. This comic is great, man, keep up the good work. Good luck with the print!
Hey, we’re practically neighbors. or at least I’ve been to Tacoma. That’s kind of the same thing.
I’m just wanted to say your comic is great! And to ask if it’s all right if I make a plushie of Medusa? I wouldn’t sell it or anything…
Of course. But please send me a picture!
Jake, just so you know the Medusa is adorable! Though got any forum avatars of her? I’d love to have one but never figured out what would be best.
Thanks. I’ll see about making some.
Love your ‘strip. I put you in my blog’s hall of fame today. Congratulations on this completely meaningless award! (Don’t pee on the Medusa! LOL)
Jake, can I start fanmade translation?
Yes.
So, now your Medusa can speak on the Russian language. No kidding!
Maybe she will like Russian food more than you.

I translate ~ 5 pages per day, will post 3-4 pages per week for a while.
Fantastic! Thanks so much for the hard work. I’ll put a link u so everyone can see.
Jake
I need a book illustrator. Mine just went psychotic (actually I think she was psychotic all this time). The style I need is eerily similar to yours. I don’t know how to message you so I am posting here. Paying gig–can you help me or recommend comic artist who needs some quick and easy work?
Please help! On a deadline. (Still love the comic)
Sure. Send me an email and we can discuss this. Jake at Celstyle.com
I was just wondering what you use to power your web page? I’m trying to design my own web comic page and am trying to figure out what to use
I sue comicpress. It’s free and pretty easy to use.
Hi… I saw you at Stumptown comic festival it was cool…
Cool!
Hey Jake! I’m the guy from Stumptown who tried on the chainsaw unicorn hat on Saturday (if you remember that at all, haha). Just wanted to say I really dig the comic (read it all today). I thought the pacing was a bit weird, especially during the first ‘season’, but this most recent adventure is /very/ nice. Can’t wait to see more- this page is definitly staying in my favorites.
Will you be at Comic-Con 2012?
Nope. It looks like my con schedule for the summer and fall is Geek Girl Con, Gencon, PAX, Kumoricon and possibly APE.
dude this comic ROCKS
from the relatable quirky characters to the enthralling story
keep it up
I stopped by your booth at kumoricon this last weekend as scott pilgrim. I started reading yesterday and am already to season 2! I really like it so far and i have the modest medusa sticker on my lap desk for my computer.
I’m defanetly going to buy the book if your at kumoricon next year or sakuracon!
Oh cool. Are you the Scott Pilgrim I took a picture of? Because I’m totally just about to post that.
Yeah! I can’t wait to see it.
I cant wait until season 2!
Hey Jake, would you be willing to promote peoples webcomics? I just started one and I just wanna know if you do.
Send me a link.
You can also post a link right here in the comments so everyone can see it.
Well its a rated PG-13/Rish but so fat its PGish lol
I’ll send you a link so you can look at it
so i Herd u liek mudkipz lol (suprised i havent seen that joke yet)
? I don’t get it.
:33< I jst wanted to thank you real quick for presenting us with the purrfect webcomic! I read a lot of webcomics, and this is rapidly becoming my favurrite!
Hey, thanks!
Jake,
Been loving your comix for a while and following MM online. My lifestyle doesn’t allow for physical “schtuff” accumulating in my digs. That’s why I’m down with the online scene. I check in as often as I can.
So, like, where’s the clickable donation icon, so I can eSend you $$? Folks gotta have a way to support their “fix.” Know what I mean? I always check up on Medusa, so get that donation thing going. Multiple income streams feed the pond of wealth. Dude!
I appreciate the thought, but I’ve never been comfortable with donation buttons. Or rather, I feel like my Kickstarters are already giant donation buttons!
Umm… hi! I found your comic by destiny on top web comics where your comic was, er, um, *88th* in the list… oh, well! I just googled “web comics” for fun cos I read a comic that updates once every friday and it’s hard to spend the week bored. Well, anyways, the comic underneath MM was Sarah Zero and I’d seen that twice before on the top comic list so I let my curiousity lead me. Anyways i found out it’s a strange gay comic. So I clicked yours cos it was ontop of the Sarah Zero one. I fell in love with Medusa’s cuteness. So I read the whole comic from the beginning! It took me a day or 2 but it was TOTZ WORTH IT! I FEEL LIKE I KNOW MEDUSA SO WELL! I LOVE IT! I live in GB and I am a very picky comic reader. I hate those japenese-anime style ones cos they annoy me. I think rude ones like Sarah Zero are too, well, rude. I like cute comics! And I’m new to web comics. It started off with “Doctor Cat” and then yesterday I got bored! So call it destiny! Chocodiles and Pokemon and cons are all new to me though. The British don’t exactly have a tendency to put on conventions. oh well!
Peace out~~ GangMom Smile
Hey, thanks for reading.
sorry it’s super long! I got a tad carried away!
